"The Day of the Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth (Amazon Link)

First real book I read. It was unputdownable. I learnt that chacal in French means jackal.

This thriller by Forsyth is about a professional assassin hired to kill the French president Charles de Gaulle. Much of it also involves the protagonist assuming false passports and identities. This kind of fraud was known as “The Day of the Jackal” fraud in the UK.
